Session B: Older Adults and Adults with I/DD: Natural Compatibility and Complimentary Needs

For the last 20 years, Maureen has worked in the disability community as both a family advocate and professional. During her tenure as senior advisor in the Office of the Arizona Department of Economic Security Director, she collaborated with AHCCCS to ensure the response to the Governor’s Executive Order Enhancing Protections for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities was inclusive of the concerns and solutions of individuals with I/DD and their families, agencies and other stakeholders. She also served as a subject matter expert in the development of the Division of Developmental Disabilities contract, integrating physical and behavioral health services. 

Prior to moving to Arizona, she worked on disability During her time as the Arizona Early Intervention Program administrator, Maureen collaborated with families, providers and stakeholders, leading the implementation of Team-Based Early Intervention Services. This required providing educational opportunities, data collection and quality assurance activities, ensuring that the approach was implemented with fidelity and met the needs of individual families and localities. This project also included recruiting families and professionals across the state, educating them on data collection methods and evidence-based practices, and engaging them to identify shared targets for improvements. 

Along with her husband, David, Maureen is the parent of three young adults, including one with a significant disability.  Her experience as both a parent and a professional continue to fuel her passion to improve healthcare systems to ensure adults with disabilities have access to high-quality, compassionate care and that their healthcare providers are provided with the knowledge, time and resources to meet those needs.
